Dear concert enthusiasts
dear visitors

anniversaries rarely coincide more aptly than this year! The great innovator of Jewish liturgy Louis Lewandowski combined traditional synagogal music with secular music, often through the solemn sounds of the organ. This very organ was named “Instrument of the Year” in 2021. Moreover, this year we commemorate “1,700 years of Jewish history in Germany” and at the same time celebrate Lewandowski’s 200th birthday.

Can there be a better time to get to know Louis Lewandowski even better? Probably not, and accordingly the organizers of the festival are bringing us closer to his lesser-known works. To all of you, to the participating choirs and other participants, to the partners, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for your commitment to this unique festival.

You have spared no expense or effort in bringing a diverse program to the stage or to the livestreams. It is an unmistakable sign that the enthusiasm for music, the shared experience and the joy of faith cannot be defeated even by the most adverse circumstances.

In this spirit, I wish you a wonderful festival with moving concerts and wonderful times together, wherever you are following the Louis Lewandowski Festival.

Dr. Dietmar Woidke
Minister President of the State of Brandenburg
