The Tivon Israel Chamber Choir was established in 1974 and currently consists of 45 singers from Kiryat Tivon and the surrounding area in Northern Israel. The choir’s repertoire includes a-cappella and oratorio pieces from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods as well as contemporary music including Israeli and folk music.

The choir has performed internationally on multiple occasions: in Spain in 1985, in France and Germany in 1989, at the “Europe Cantat” since 1991, and at the “Neustift Festival” in South Tirol in 2002, where the choir recorded Dvorak’s “Stabat Mater” for Italian radio. In 2007, the choir participated in a series of concerts centered near Auschwitz, Poland, performing with choirs from Germany and Poland, in an attempt to bridge, through music, over past sorrows.

In 2005 the choir participated in the Jewish Music Festival in Safed, took part several times in the “Abu-Gosh Festival” near Jerusalem, performed in 2010 with the Haifa Symphonic Orchestra in a prestigious production of Verdi’s “La Traviata”, In 2010 and in 2011 at the concert season openings of the Be’er-Sheva Israeli Sinfonietta, and in 2013 the choir performed Mozart’s “Vespere” with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra. In 2014, on International Holocaust Day, the choir was invited to Germany and Switzerland to perform pieces by the composer Isaak Tavior.

The choir performed with the German Radio Orchestra in Hof and Nurnberg as well as at the Palace of Nations in Geneva. This concert was recorded by the Austrian television and broadcasted live throughout Europe. In 2015, the choir hosted the Camerata Academica Symphony Orchestra of Freiburg and two choirs from Freiburg, Germany and Besançon, France for a series of gala performances of Stabat Mater by Dvorak across Israel. In 2015, the choir visited Helsinki, Finland, singing with the local Kallio Cantata Choir. In 2016, the choir performed Handel’s Messiah on several occasions in Israel. Finally, in 2016-2017, the Tivon Israel Chamber Choir performed “Lights by Sound” ─ a program of magnificent movements from famous Oratorios for choir & soloists, in several venues in Israel.
