Versatile musician and composer
Shir-Ran Yinon is an exceptionally versatile musician who is at home in a variety of musical genres – from classical to pop and rock to folk and metal. As a violinist, electric violinist, violist and singer as well as a composer and arranger, she sets no limits to her musical creativity. Known for her emotional, accomplished playing and her wide musical range, she is also a master of improvisation.
International career and collaboration with rock bands
Shir-Ran has toured in over 30 countries on five continents, especially with bands from the rock and metal scene. Since 2014, she has been a permanent guest violinist for the British band New Model Army and has performed at the famous Wacken Open Air, among others. For her collaboration with the band, she wrote all the orchestral arrangements for their collaboration with Sinfonia Leipzig, which was released in 2023 as a live album and DVD under the title “Sinfonia”. She also performs regularly with other artists such as Danger Dan, ASP, Sarah Lesch and Felix Meyer and has also worked as a session musician for Schandmaul, Haggard and Eluveitie.
Mondëna Quartet and awards
In 2019, Shir-Ran founded the mondëna quartet, an ensemble that reflects her creative vision as a composer. Her debut album “Circles”, a journey through spherical sounds and emotional climaxes, was nominated for the OPUS KLASSIK 2023 in four categories. The string quartet also collaborates with artists such as Sven Helbig and Felix Räuber.
Compositions and commissioned works
Shir-Ran has already written several commissioned compositions for renowned orchestras and institutions, including the “Vivid” composition for the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie. Her works are regularly performed on the radio and in many countries. Particularly noteworthy is her “Headbanging Symphony”, which combines classical music and heavy metal, as well as her works for the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Dresden Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.
Musical training and roots
Shir-Ran’s musical journey began with classical violin lessons at the age of nine. She studied viola with Avshalom Sarid at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance and composition with Prof. Oded Zehavi and Prof. Eitan Steinberg. She received the “Dean’s Prize for Outstanding Achievement” at the University of Haifa. She has lived in Leipzig since 2013 after growing up in Israel and is the daughter of the internationally renowned conductor Israel Yinon.
