Gegründet 1926, entwickelte der London Jewish Male Choir eine excellente Reputation unter seinem Dirigenten Manny Fisher sowohl national im Vereinigten Königreich als auch international.

Das Ensemble trat/tritt mit einigen der berühmtesten zeitgenössischen Kantoren auf, darunter David Koussevitzky, Moshe Korn, Simon Hass, Moshe Stern und Joseph Malovany.

Heute unter der Leitung von Joseph Finlay (University of Cambridge; Royal Academy of Music), bewegt sich der LJMC nach wie vor an der Spitze der jüdischen Musik Großbritanniens.

Der Chor verfügt über ein umfangreiches und ständig wechselndes Repertoire, das den Bogen spannt von der Klassik in die Moderne, über die großen liturgischen Werke zu jiddischen Liedern, zum Broadway und moderner israelischer Volksmusik. Der Chor beging im Dezember 2011 seinen 85. Geburtstag.
Der Solist des Chores ist Kantor Steven Leas (Central Synagogue, London). Kantor Leas gilt als einer der wichtigsten zeitgenössischen Interpreten jüdisch-liturgischer Musik in Großbritannien.

Wichtige Aktivitäten der letzten Jahre:

  • Oktober 2013: Einladung der Jüdischen Gemeinde Strasbourg: Schabbat Morgen in der Grande synagogue de la Paix und ein Wohltätigkeitskonzert am folgenden Tag in der Synagoge von Hagenau
  • Juni 2013: Annual European Cantors Convention, Abschlusskonzert in London.
  • November 2012: ein Konzert gemeinsam mit Kantor Gideon Zelemyer, Montreal, in der namhaften St. John’s Smith Square concert hall in London mit mehr als 400 Zuhörern.
  • Dezember 2011: Galakonzert anlässlich des 85. Geburtstages der New West End Synagogue, London, mit dem Gastdirigenten Stephen Glass (Musikdirektor der Gemeinde Shaar Hashomayim, Montreal).

Der Amakim Chor wurde 1980 gegründet und besteht aus ca. 45 Sängerinnen und Sängern aus dem Norden Israels. Die meisten Choristen leben in einem Kibbutz oder Moschaw, einige in Nachbarstädten.

The Choir remains at the forefront of Jewish music in the UK under the direction of Joseph Finlay (University of Cambridge; Royal Academy of Music) and boasts an extensive and continually evolving repertoire, from both classic and modern settings of the great liturgical pieces to Yiddish, Broadway and Popular Israeli music.

The Choir celebrated its 85th anniversary in December 2011.

The principal soloist of the Choir is Cantor Steven Leas (Central Synagogue, London), who is widely recognised as one of the finest exponents of traditional chazzanut in the UK at present.

Notable activities in recent years:

  • October 2013: Invited by Jewish Community of Strasbourg to perform a series of concerts (Shabbat morning at the Grande synagogue de la Paix and a charity concert the following day at the Synagogue of Hagenau)
  • June 2013: Participated in the 2013 European Cantorial Association Convention final concert in London
  • November 2012: Joint concert with Cantor Gideon Zelemyer (Montreal), at the renowned St. John’s Smith Square concert hall in London, in the attendance of over 400 people.
  • December 2011: Gala concert to celebrate the Choir’s 85th anniversary at the New West End Synagogue, London, under the guest direction of Stephen Glass (Director of Music, Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, Montreal)
