Eight solo voices—one unified sound

The Cecilia Ensemble is one of the newest groups within the Moran Choirs and holds a special place in the Israeli vocal music scene. The eight singers are among Israel’s most distinguished vocal artists and hold degrees in voice and choral conducting from leading music academies in Israel and abroad. As experienced soloists and ensemble singers, they regularly perform on major stages throughout Israel.

The ensemble was founded by Naomi Faran, founder and artistic director of the Moran Choirs, and Guy Pelc, music director of the Cecilia Ensemble. Their goal was to create a top-tier professional ensemble dedicated to challenging and innovative programs and to collaborating with contemporary composers.

From the Renaissance to the Present Day

The ensemble’s repertoire spans a wide range, from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary music. The eight voices perform both a cappella and in collaboration with renowned instrumental ensembles. Past partners include the Meitar Ensemble, the Jerusalem Baroque Orchestra, the Israel Camerata Jerusalem, and the Barrocade Ensemble.

A special focus is placed on new works and world premieres. The ensemble has premiered numerous contemporary compositions. These include the chamber children’s opera *A Hug*, based on a text by Israeli author David Grossman.

Festivals and International Recognition

The Cecilia Ensemble has performed at the Abu Gosh Vocal Music Festival, the Felicja Blumental International Music Festival, the Israeli Music Festival, and the “Heartbeat” concert series for contemporary Israeli music, among others.

In April 2025, the ensemble won first prize at an international vocal ensemble competition in Hungary. The award highlights the artistic journey of this still-young ensemble, which combines soloist-level quality, precise ensemble playing, and a commitment to new music.
