Le Chant Sacré is a male choir consisting of approximately twenty singers. The choir’s repertoire focuses on Jewish-Ashkenazi liturgy (central European and German Jewish tradition) both in Hebrew and in Yiddish. The choir director Maestro Roï Azulai is a professional conductor and a graduated of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.

Le Chant Sacrée is one of the last synagogue choirs in France which performs weekly at Sabbath services every Friday evening and Saturday morning. The choir also performs in all festivals with a permanent professional Cantor, Mr. Isaac Ouaknine, at the Great Synagogue in Strasbourg, La Synagogue de la Paix (The Synagogue of Peace) and is often accompanied by professional musicians.

The choir strives to perpetuate the Jewish liturgy of the Ashkenazi tradition, specifically the Alsacian tradition, and to preserve the unique cantorial tradition of the Rhine Valley. It has many years of experience and a broad repertoire which have been enhanced by the addition of Sephardic liturgy, Judeo-Baroque music, songs of the Comtat Venaissin tradition (Southern French tradition) as well as Israeli folklore.

Le Chant Sacre has also participated in various festivals such as French Music Days, European Jewish Heritage Days in France and abroad (Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Israel and more). The choir was rewarded the 2008 European Choir Price by Council of Europe.
